Juan Manuel Sisay -- Portrait of his Grandfather
Juan Manuel Sisay -- Portrait of his Grandfather
Juan Sisay was Santiago Atitlan's first and most famous painter. He had three sons, all of whom painted, as well as a number of grandsons and nephews, all of whom use some variation of "Juan Sisay" in their names. This painting is by Juan's son Juan Manuel Sisay, and is dated 2003. I purchased it from a gallery in Santiago Atitlan in 2006, from Juan Sisay's grandson Juan Diego. Diego told me that the portrait was of Juan Sisay's father. Juan Manuel Sisay is one of Guatemala's most accomplished contemporary painters. He has exhibited both nationally and internationally, winning wide critical acclaim.

Oil painting on canvas measures 14 x 17 inches, and is stretched but not framed. Signed upper left "Juan Manuel Sisay '03".

Welcome to Stony Hill Antiques and Gallery

Welcome to Stony Hill Antiques and Gallery. We offer an eclectic collection of textiles, books and fine art from around the world. Our primary interest is Latin America, and you will find high quality paintings, textiles and other fine arts from many Latin American countries. There are also reference and history books, and many more will be added over the coming months. Since I have a large collection of African textiles, some of these are the first to be listed.

Our store inventory is extensive and quite varied, so we will be adding items on an almost weekly basis.  If you are looking for something in particular, please send us an email.  Or check back regularly to see what had been added.

All Guatemalan textiles and paintings were purchased on trips to that country beginning in 1996. Many of the paintings were purchased directly from the artists, or from their personal representatives. Authenticity is guaranteed. All textiles were chosen personally, with a special eye for quality, aesthetic appeal, authenticity and condition. If you are not satisfied with your purchase, please feel free to return it for a full refund.

A word about our inventory: Most of the art and textile items are one-of-a-kind. The shopping cart and checkout should be adjusted to correctly reflect the number of identical items in the inventory. Most books, on the other hand, are available in multiple copies. Please inquire if you wish to make larger quantity purchases.

Thanks for visiting our site, and please now continue your exploration.
