Product Description

This is a small size tzute or girl's shawl from the Quiche Maya town of Nahuala, located in the highlands above Lake Atitlan in Guatemala's southern highlands. This textile was woven in the village on a backstrap loom. Such pieces are usually woven by the family for their own use.

This particular shawl is 20-30 years old, and is of mostly cotton. The brocaded designs were added during the weaving process using supplemental weft brocading. The fringes are formed from twisted warp threads.

Size: 18 inches wide and 28 inches long, not including the fringes. This tzute was made from a single panel.

Condition: very good, perhaps some light soil and a couple very small holes. Both ends are finished with loose warp fringe. Condition is Very Good, some light wear and soil is possible.
